Valerie Madison

What successful Search → AI transfer looks like.

Valerie Madison already earns substantial non-branded Google discovery. In a controlled ChatGPT recommendation test, the brand also appeared in the same Black-owned jewelry territory. The interesting question is not whether AI can find the brand. It is why the association travels.

The headline AI Visibility score is modest. But a single score hides the more useful observation: Valerie Madison is already being recommended by AI for a commercially meaningful non-branded category where it also ranks in Search.

Locked prompt · ChatGPT · Sep. 2, 2026

“What are the most popular black jewelry brands today?”

ChatGPT interpreted the query as Black-owned jewelry and named 13 brands. Valerie Madison appeared in the recommendation table, described as fine jewelry and distinctive engagement rings. It did not appear in the response's narrower five-brand shortlist.

04 · Why the association travels

The same idea is repeated on-site, in editorial and in community discussion.

Owned clarity

Valerie Madison has a dedicated Black-Owned Jewelry collection, a BIPOC collection and About-page language that explicitly identifies the company as a BIPOC woman-owned independent fine-jewelry brand.

Third-party repetition

Editorial and directory coverage repeatedly classifies Valerie Madison in the same Black-owned jewelry context. In the controlled ChatGPT response, cited sources included Essence, ELLE and Black Designer Brands.

Community corroboration

Independent consumer discussions also connect Valerie Madison with Black-owned engagement jewelry and recommend the brand in shopping conversations. Semrush separately shows Reddit among the domain's top AI-cited sources.

Observed pattern: owned-site clarity → Search category authority → third-party repetition → AI recommendation. This is correlation, not proof of causation.

05 · AI distribution

The brand is visible across four monitored AI surfaces.

138

Total measured mentions

128 of 138 measured mentions were in the US. Semrush showed Valerie Madison’s own domain, YouTube and Reddit among leading cited-source domains. The distribution matters more than the 20/100 headline score alone.

06 · Community

Customers repeat the positioning in their own words.

Ownership

Engagement-ring owners explicitly mention choosing Valerie Madison to support a Black woman-owned small business.

Product

Sapphires, custom rings and distinctive wedding stacks recur in owner posts rather than appearing only in brand copy.

Experience

Seattle recommendation threads describe the showroom, custom process and service positively, creating a second layer of recommendation evidence.

07 · Research implication

Search authority alone may not be the whole story.

Across Found & Form's research, strong non-branded Google visibility does not always produce recommendation visibility in AI systems. Valerie Madison gives us a useful positive case: a category association that is explicit on the brand's own site, repeated by third parties, visible in consumer discussion and reproduced in a controlled AI recommendation response.

Working hypothesis: brands whose category associations are repeated consistently across owned content, editorial coverage and authentic community discussion may be better positioned to transfer Search authority into AI recommendations.

08 · Methodology

What we tested, including what we excluded.

Search: Semrush US desktop database, September 2026. Domain Overview: Authority Score 34, 13.8K organic traffic, 7.1K keywords. Dedicated Organic Rankings report: 5.9K keywords, 12.3K traffic, 10.6K non-branded traffic. Differences reflect separate Semrush reports/snapshots.

Preselected territories: sapphire engagement rings, contour wedding bands and Black-owned jewelry were chosen from Search evidence before opening AI responses.

Sapphire: 652 ranking keywords and ~491 estimated traffic. Semrush did not surface a sufficiently relevant monitored non-branded recommendation prompt, so no AI success/failure was recorded.

Wedding bands: the locked Gemini prompt “Can you recommend some popular wedding bands based on reviews?” was excluded after Gemini interpreted “wedding bands” as musical performers rather than rings. We did not substitute another response after seeing that result.

Black-owned jewelry: the prompt “What are the most popular black jewelry brands today?” was selected before its full response was opened. ChatGPT named Valerie Madison among 13 brands. This is recorded as a successful recommendation appearance, not evidence that any particular source caused the recommendation.

AI snapshot: Semrush AI Visibility 20/100; 138 mentions; 128 US; own domain, YouTube and Reddit among the leading cited-source domains shown in the report.

Sources: Semrush; Valerie Madison's official site; editorial and community-source review, September 2026. Traffic and AI figures are modeled/monitored estimates, not Valerie Madison analytics.
