Beyond the Ear Stack: 10 Brands Redefining Ear Curation

Ten brands, six shopper questions, four places to look. What happens to a distinctive identity once it meets Google and AI answers?

By Dana Roth · October 15, 2026 · Discovery Research

A shopper types “ear curation” into a search box. Somewhere between Google’s page, an AI answer and a brand’s own product page, a picture forms of who does this well. We wanted to see which brands appear in that picture, and what each one has actually put on its pages.

So we asked six plain questions, the way a shopper might, on Google results, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini. Then we looked closely at ten brands that sit in this territory in very different ways: a coined phrase, a wholesale workshop, a piercing parlor, a catalog of numbers, two Etsy shops.

This is not a league table, and it does not ask how small brands can become more mainstream. It asks how each brand makes itself recognizable, and what happens to that recognizability when a shopper’s first stop is a search page or an AI answer.

A note on the title: “redefining” describes the different ways these ten present ear curation. It is not a measured market effect. The ten are a research sample, not the highest-ranking or most successful brands.

Key findings

29 of 36

AI answers named Maria Tash, the most of any of the ten. Three brands were named in none.

0 of 54

Google first-page organic results across the six queries were the official site of any of the ten.

15 of 36

AI answers named BVLA, a wholesale-only maker, mostly as available through a studio.

9 vs 2

of ten product-page elements present for Laura Bond and Robinson Pelham. Naming did not follow that order.

Official runs only (12 per AI platform: Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini). Captured Oct 15, 2026 from a browser outside the US. Mentions measure who is named, not quality, popularity or sales.

What ear curation actually is

An ear stack is the outcome: several piercings, each with its own piece. Curation is the planning behind it, choosing placements and mixing studs, hoops and chains so the pieces relate to each other and to the anatomy of the ear. Many brands sell it as a service as well as a style, with an appointment, a stylist or a virtual try-on.

That makes it a revealing category for discovery. A shopper needs three kinds of help at once: ideas, safe technical detail (gauge, post length, closure) and, for some, a person who will do the piercing. A brand can offer all three, one, or none.

SIX QUESTIONS WE ASKED
  1. Which independent fine jewelry brands offer ear curation?
  2. Where can I buy solid gold helix earrings online?
  3. Which jewelers offer personalized ear styling?
  4. Where can I find unusual gold cartilage earrings?
  5. Which brands sell gemstone flat-back earrings?
  6. Where can I buy gold chains and charms for an ear stack?

Typed exactly as shown, with no brand names or follow-ups. The first uses the word “independent”; we did not verify independence for every brand that answers named.

Ten brands, ten ways to be recognizable

aurelianpiercing

Etsy shop · lab-grown diamond flat backs

A shop on Etsy since 2025 that shows 6,535 sales on its shop page (Oct 15, 2026), with 231 items, mostly push-pin studs (167) and clickers (29). Its listings give post gauges (20G, 18G, 16G) and lengths (5–10 mm). One listing shows how a title and an option menu can disagree: the title says 14K, while the lowest displayed price belongs to a 10K option.

Etsy shop · push-back studs, clickers, chains

A shop with 15,297 sales and 720 items on Oct 15, 2026. Its listings state gauge, post length and inner size in numbers, but the pages reviewed said nothing about fresh versus healed piercings or aftercare. It was named once in 48 AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini runs, in an AI Mode answer that did not link to the shop.

Robinson Pelham

Jewelry house · London

Its “Ear Curator” page invites shoppers to book an appointment, and its EarMenu organizes ears by hoops, studs and cuffs. The product pages reviewed did not state gauge, post length or inner diameter. The brand was not named in any of the 36 official AI answers.

10 · PRODUCT SIZES AND SPECIFICATIONS

Stone and Strand

Online fine jewelry · New York

Sells push-pin flat backs with gauge and post options and offers no piercing or curation service that we could find. In Semrush’s US data it ranks first for “push pin flat back earrings”, yet our six prompts named it in 3 of 36 official answers. ChatGPT itself noted that a Stone and Strand guide was not confirmation of an appointment-based service.

  • 3 of 36 AI answers named it
  • 4 of 10 page elements present

Ownership: Founder-led; reports of outside funding conflict.

Ownership notes follow checks on Oct 15, 2026. Only Robinson Pelham’s ownership is confirmed from a primary register (UK Companies House). Pamela Love’s 2024 buyback is reported by trade press. The others are unverified, so this article does not call any of the ten independently owned.

What the pages teach

All ten organize ears by placement, in a menu, a collection or a listing field. Beyond that, the information a shopper needs to choose safely varies widely. We reviewed up to three products and the guide pages for each brand and recorded what the pages state, with no judgment of design or photography.

  1. 1 Navigation by ear placement
  2. 2 Hoop inner diameter
  3. 3 Gauge and post length
  4. 4 Closure and compatibility
  5. 5 Gold and gemstone identification
  6. 6 Scale and placement photos

NUMBERS

Laura Bond (9 of 10 elements present), Pamela Love (7) and Maria Tash (6) state gauge, post length or diameter and closure. Robinson Pelham, Kismet by Milka and Malka lead with collections and styling language; their product pages gave no gauge, post length or inner diameter.

GUIDANCE

Only Laura Bond’s pages spoke clearly to fresh versus healed piercings. Both Etsy shops list numbers but no aftercare or fresh-versus-healed guidance in the listings reviewed. Seller wording such as “suitable for new or healed piercings” is a claim, not medical advice.

SERVICES

Six of the ten tie the jewelry to a person or place: piercing or styling at Maria Tash, Pamela Love, Laura Bond and Malka, and booking at Kismet by Milka and Robinson Pelham. Stone and Strand, BVLA and the Etsy shops sell pieces without a service, which AI answers sometimes blur.

Details are as displayed on Oct 15, 2026, in each shop’s base currency or Etsy sale price. Prices are not compared because storefront currencies differ.

Six ways identity showed up

These are descriptive groupings of what we saw in one snapshot. They are not a typology the brands would necessarily recognize, and the results do not show that any type causes more or less visibility.

A coined idea

Maria Tash

How it is built. Owns a phrase (The Curated Ear®) and pairs it with boutiques, appointments and a virtual try-on.

What the answers did. Named in 29 of 36 official answers and linked to in most mentions on ChatGPT and AI Mode.

The infrastructure brand

BVLA

How it is built. A workshop whose customers are studios; the site points shoppers to a studio finder.

What the answers did. Named 15 times, almost always as available through a studio, so the answer routes the shopper to others.

The placement teacher

Laura Bond, Pamela Love

How it is built. Product pages carry gauge, post length and guides for each placement; both run a piercing studio.

What the answers did. Named in 4 and 3 answers, mostly on Google surfaces; Laura Bond’s pages were cited in an AI Overview.

Service-first and local

Malka Jewelry

How it is built. A store and studio on one street, with piercing included in purchase.

What the answers did. Named only in ChatGPT answers localized to Israel; a Google map card placed it in Beirut.

Collection language

Kismet by Milka, Robinson Pelham

How it is built. Named collections, styling language and an appointment tool, light on technical numbers.

What the answers did. Kismet appeared only as stocked by a retailer; Robinson Pelham was not named.

Catalog with numbers

Stone and Strand, GoldenAuraPiercings, aurelianpiercing

How it is built. Large selections with gauges and sizes, little narrative or service.

What the answers did. Named 3 times, once and not at all. Marketplace category pages filled Google’s page instead.

THE PATTERN
The most recognizable identities tell the answer who they are in a sentence: a phrase, a trade role, a place.

Established names and smaller brands: footprint and naming do not line up neatly

Semrush estimates that Maria Tash, Pamela Love and Stone and Strand draw 42.1K, 36.6K and 18.5K US organic visits a month, against 7.3K or fewer for BVLA, Laura Bond, Kismet by Milka, Robinson Pelham and Malka. In our six-prompt tests, though, Stone and Strand and Pamela Love were each named in only 3 of 36 answers, and Laura Bond, with a far smaller estimated footprint, in 4.

Two separate measures, shown on independent scales—not a combined score. Gold: Semrush modeled AI mentions per domain (US database, Oct 13, 2026). Garnet: mentions in our 36 AI answers from a different prompt set. Compare brand patterns within each column, not bar lengths across columns. Etsy shops are excluded because Semrush does not report shops as domains.
Underlying AI visibility comparison data
BrandSemrush AI mentionsEst. monthly US visitsNamed (of 36)

Pamela Love12336.6K3
Kismet by Milka365992
Laura Bond334.7K4
Robinson Pelham312670
Malka Jewelry71502

Three cautions apply. Semrush figures are modeled estimates from its own prompt set, not our tests. Domain-level numbers mix branded and non-branded queries. And a count of AI mentions measures how often a system names a brand, not how good, popular or commercially successful the brand is. The comparison shows that visibility is shaped by more than size; it does not say why.

What this suggests for brands like these

These are hypotheses to test, not instructions, and none of them depends on becoming more mainstream.

  1. Say who you are in one sentence, and repeat it where answers look. The most-named brand owns a phrase and a service. Clarity of role can be a trade role (BVLA) or a place (Malka), not only scale.
  2. Audit how others describe you. If answers name you as “available through” a studio or stockist, check those pages and the studio finder. They are part of your discovery surface.
  3. Put the numbers where shoppers decide. Gauge, post length, inner diameter, closure and who the piece is for (fresh or healed) help shoppers whether or not an AI reads them.
  4. Separate services from products. Say plainly whether you pierce, style, book, or only sell, and give price and location when you do.
  5. Check how your entity is represented. Search your own name in each AI surface and in Google’s map data, and correct what you control.
  6. Keep marketplace titles and options consistent. A 14K title with a 10K lowest-price option is a trust problem in any channel.

Method and limits, briefly

What we did. On Oct 15, 2026 we typed six prompts, exactly as shown above, into Google (results with AI Overview), Google AI Mode, ChatGPT (temporary chat) and Gemini (temporary chat). We recorded two fresh official runs per prompt per AI platform (12 per platform, 36 in all), plus a third run per prompt on AI Mode and ChatGPT and earlier pilot runs on AI Mode, kept out of the headline counts. We reviewed the ten brands’ product, collection and guide pages for ten information elements, and used Semrush’s US database (Oct 13, 2026) for estimated traffic and AI mentions. Runs, screenshots and sources are preserved in Found & Form’s Research Library.

  • Not US-controlled. The browser was outside the US. ChatGPT localized its answers to Israel (shekel prices, Israeli studios); Google showed “Can’t determine location” and AI Mode showed “Personalizing”. The results describe that setup, not what a typical US shopper sees. A US-controlled replication has not been run and would be reported as a separate dataset.
  • Small samples. Twelve answers per platform. One extra run can move a count of 3 to 4. Counts are descriptive; we draw no ranking and no statistical conclusion.
  • One day, one profile. A signed-in Google profile and a signed-in ChatGPT account; no model or version was displayed. Google AI Overviews changed between page loads.
  • Mentions are not quality. Being named says nothing about a brand’s quality, popularity or sales. Etsy sales counts are seller-page counters, not revenue.
  • Ownership. Only Robinson Pelham’s is confirmed from a register; the others are reported or unverified, so no brand here is called independently owned.
  • Seller claims and causation. Material and safety wording comes from sellers and is not medical advice. We did not test whether specifications, content or stockists cause AI visibility.
  • Images. Product images and screenshots are used to illustrate the pages and products discussed, link to their sources and belong to their owners. Charts and graphics are original.
